With HughesNet, your super-fast, always on connection is ready when you are – no dialing, no waiting. So you can download files in seconds, network multiple computers, quickly access and play audio or video clips, and surf faster than you ever imagined. Because HughesNet gives you instant Internet access via satellite, it won’t tie up your phone lines like dial-up. So you can surf and talk on the phone at the same time, and get rid of the expense of that second phone line!

Best of all, with no software to load and compatibility with Windows and Mac, HughesNet makes getting online anywhere in the continental U.S. easy! If you have a clear view of the southern sky, you can be high-speed surfing.

Your hours of Internet use are unlimited, so you can surf as often and as long as you’d like. And again, with an instant connection to the internet, HughesNet is ready when you are – no dialing-in, no waiting. Simply click on your Web browser, and you’re surfing.

Plus, with the HN9000, you can network1 multiple home computers or laptops, so there’s no waiting for your turn to get on the internet.

How it works

The HughesNet terminal is comprised of both indoor and outdoor equipment. Outside, there is an antenna and transmit-and-receive electronics, integrated into one dish. This equipment connects by coaxial cables to the indoor HN9000, which connects to your computer or network through a standard Ethernet connection.

HughesNet knows how important your privacy is. That's why our service uses conditional access and triple encryption to protect both your incoming and outgoing information. This makes HughesNet broadband access as secure as you can get.

Conditional access uses encryption technology to secure HughesNet Service against unauthorized access. It protects multimedia and digital files from being intercepted by any site except those designated. Information you send is inherently secure because of the complexity of our satellite transmission.

Q: Can I connect two computers to HughesNet?

A: Yes. The HN9000 utilizes Ethernet connectivity, giving you the ability to network¹ multiple home computers or laptops using your home networking equipment. See Configuration Diagrams.

Q: Does HughesNet provide an E-mail account?

A: Yes. HughesNet provides 5 e-mail accounts with these great features:

  • 2 GB of storage per mailbox
  • Spam Protection
  • Anti-Virus Protection
  • Web Mail Interface
  • IMAP, POP, and SMTP support
  • Use any email program!
  • Ability to block individual senders
  • Personal folders
  • Ability to add mail accounts to webmail (gmail, yahoo, etc.)

Q: Are there any limitations with HughesNet?

A: Maybe, for some users. HughesNet utilizes satellite technology to send and receive the Internet to your computer, making it available everywhere in the continental United States. While satellites give you high-speed Internet, the distance between our satellite and your dish does produce a micro-fraction time delay or ‘latency’ during transmissions, which may not be perfect for ‘twitch’ games or online trading that need split-second reactions. So, if you’re a big online gamer or utilizing a VPN, HughesNet may not be ideal for you.
